| "I have been a volunteer with
Manavi since 2004. My training and experience as a volunteer
advocate brought to life, translated and enhanced the conceptual
knowledge related to the issue of domestic violence that I initially
started with. The concept of empathy, in particular, has proven
to be more meaningful in the course of my experience as a volunteer
advocate.
Manavi's volunteers and staff share
information and assist one another seamlessly in their endeavor
to address the issue of domestic violence in the South Asian
community. The staff is never hesitant to guide or receive
suggestions from volunteers and the mutual respect and spirit
of inquiry serves as a unique and valuable tool in providing
services for victims and survivors of violence.
As a volunteer advocate I have provided
supportive counseling, interpretation, legal assistance and
more, to several women. Numbers are not measurements of success
for us, but every time we succeed in getting justice, resources
and open doors for a survivor of domestic violence, it translates
into the simple truth that life starts looking more hopeful
for that woman. Our accomplishments are unequivocally tied
with those of the women we work with and I wouldn't want it
any other way."
